Virtual Tour of Dimond Hill Farm Animals

Dimond Hill Farm prides itself on having the cleanest and healthiest animals. The animals found at Dimond Hill Farm are always happy and full of fun. They have plenty of land to forage and plenty of water to drink. Throughout the year the farm animals are seen by thousands of people, and we always hear how they look and smell great. Here is a quick tour of the animals you will find at the farm, can you identify one large animal that is missing from our current lineup?
Llamas
In 1997 these five Llamas where saved by the farm and given a happy home. We currently shave off their fur and give it to anyone interested in cleaning and carding it. Their fur can be used to make hats, gloves, shirts, and other clothing. Llama hair is hollow and thick, which allows for better insulation in the cold winter months, and cooling qualities for the hot summer temperatures. There is one boy named Max, and four girls. From youngest to oldest, Bri (brown, Savanna’s daughter), Autumn (Audi brown savanna’s daughter), Savanna (brown), Pie (white), and Max (white with brown spots).

Horses
Marshall is the dark brown Morgan with one white spot in the center of his head.. Marshall is 20 years old and was used in his younger years as a trail rider and a lesson horse for many people. He has a great gallop and can jump very high. He is very talkative so when you see him he will whiney to you until you pay attention to him. The tan colored and black horses where saved from Canada, they are three years old. They are draft crosses, and love to eat lots of hay. You can see them running wild in 5 acres of land we provide for them. The blonde horse is Nick and the black horse is Tess.

Chickens
In 2006 chickens found their way to Dimond Hill Farm. We have five varieties of chickens which all lay brown large eggs. We have laced Wyandot (small black birds with laced wings), black sex linked (all black), red Hampshire’s (red feathers with white edges), red comets (dark red), and light brahmas (large white birds with black edged feathers). When you visit you can hear them clucking away in their area under the barn. We have lots of predators who love to have chicken for dinner, so we have to keep them safe under the barn. We built a gorgeous coupe for them and a spacious pen for them to live in.

Pigs
2008 was the first year Dimond Hill farm welcomed piglets into the family. The Yorkshire crosses are pink with some red hair. They arrive at 50 pounds and by the end of the fall they weigh around 255 pounds. They love to eat corn, tomatoes, greens, grass, pumpkins, seeds, roots, well just about anything really. We you come to the farm you can feed them our farm stand left over’s. The pigs will squeal with delight when they see you coming. They are so friendly and love when people watch them swim in there minature swimming pool, these pigs if you watch closely can jump high and almost fly.

Geese
Spencer and Katie have been the Llama’s roommates for 6 years. They run around and dig up worms and other bugs. They love to preen themselves and take bathes in there tubes. They float around and squawk all day long. They are happy to walk with the llamas, many times you will see them eating hay with the llamas in the fields. However if you see them tending to there young in the spring they may hiss at you, but don't worry ther are harmless.

Sheep
The newest member to the Dimond Hill Farm clan. Three babies, mixed black and white, with two parents can be seen in the fenced in area in the back field where we grew our rows crops last year. They are happily eating rye which we planted as cover crops. IF you go to see them make sure to watch out for their electric fence as it will shock you if you touch it. I love to watch the sheep jump and run around near their moms.

Dogs
Oliver is the big black Newfoundland, he is almost 10 years old and weighs 150 pounds. Jake is the black and white dog with fluffy hair, he loves kisses and is the best with children. Chloe is the brown Border collie mix; she is very intense with the herding animals, and loves to show her skills off. The smaller dog is kalli and she is a plot coon hound mix, she loves to chase small animals around, and she has learned from her older sister how to boarder the animals at the farm. The yellow shirt dog is the owner Jane, she is the best trained dog off them all.

I hope you enjoyed your virtual farm tour of our animals, they love to show off their beauty and uniqueness. You are always welcomed to visit the farm, see the animals, see our crops, and talk to farmer Jane about anything.
