Highlight item of 2009 is "When Pigs fly par-baked bread"
This year we wanted add bread that was delicious and affordable for all people. We looked high and low but couldn't find what we wanted. Since Dimond Hill Farm sells out of our barn our conditions for fresh bread market are diminished. Bread can only keep for two days before becoming pig food. We called around and after talking with some bread makers we decided that par-baked or bread that has been baked prior to freezing would be our best option. Our favorite local bread is "When Pigs Fly" and we heard through the grape vine that they make a variety of breads par-baked. We contacted the bread artisans and discussed the advantages and disadvantages about carrying par-baked bread. The best advantage is that there is no spoilage; they don't go bad in two days. They are much cheaper then fully cooked bread for there is less labor and energy inputs to make the finish product, and lastly, you the customer can take home frozen bread and in 20 minutes have fresh warm bread that taste home made. The disadvantages are few, it is frozen and must be cooked, and the loaves are medium sized and circular. The best part of all is that Dimond Hill Farm is the only Concord store to carry this product.
New Products on the Hill
New products on the farm stand shelves will include blueberry jams, syrup, fresh fruit jams from Field Stone Farm, pickles galore from Mike’s Maine Pickles® and as always pies from Just Like Mom’s baked goods. We also carry Crooked Birch Kitchen's full line of jams, jellies, and glazes. Honey from Ben and Bev Chadwhick can be purchased as well, the great part about their honey is that some of the honey has been harvested from our farm. Misty Knolls Farms chicken and turkey pot pies are our newest items and can be purchased frozen and cooked in 50 mintues. They are all natural and use only fresh ingredients, Dimond Hill has tested both and has given two thumbs up for quailty and taste.
